Songs From My Front Room #6 - Someday We'll See Better Days

Songs From My Front Room" # 6

                “Someday We’ll See Better Days”

Hi friends,

Week number 6 on my weekly blog.

My goodness where does the time go to?

This week’s tune is a song I originally wrote as a charity song with the idea of raising money for the “Whitechapel Homeless Centre” in Liverpool.

I had just done a gig at the “We Shall Overcome” events which were quite moving to be part of. Graham Holland from Liverpool Acoustic got everyone to sing “We Shall Overcome” and on the way home I thought wouldn’t it be nice to write something on similar lines. I had doubts at one point but the great Liverpool songwriter Alun Parry messaged a few supportive words and I finished it off and then got in touch with lots of Merseyside artists to see if they’d sing a line or two and most did that I invited. I was very grateful. Poor Jon Lawton my co-producer and engineer had to sit through 23 different singers singing the whole song several times over so we could get a line at least from everyone. He was demented and vowed never to listen to that song again lol.

I did a version for my “Trains” album and to be honest not played it for years – I think the last time was in Southport with the James Street Band and Megan-Louise singing it with me. Hope you can relate to it? With vaccines on the horizon, the possibility of a change of leaders in other country’s one can but hope.

This week’s listening has been quite varied … I played a couple of new “Neil Young” albums .. “Homegrown” and “Colarado”. Taken a few plays to get in to them but it’s been worthwhile. Gone back to “John Prine’s” debut album with is stunning.

As my song “Jackson’s Farm” featured on the cover disc of this months “Rock’n’Reel” (R’N’R ) magazine –

Un-herd 84 I have been spinning that a few times and it sits with some beautiful songs

TV – I don’t do reality TV shows I’m afraid so I’ve caught up on two series from a couple of years ago “Collateral” and “Capital”. Got to say that in “Capital” Rachel Stirling gave me a shock how much she looked like her mother “Diana Rigg”

Film wise – Kinda not seen anything that I’d say was memorable in the last week to be honest.

Finally – Just like to congratulate “Rob Vincent” and “Anna Corcoran” for their nominations in the AMAUK 2021 finals – well deserved. I didn’t expect my album to feature obviously. Despite the amazing reviews I have had it’s very difficult to self promote on a small budget .. maybe one day?

Ok thanks for reading this and listening to my song – hopefully you’ll tune in to the next episode in a day or two?

Till then take care and stay safe xx
