Tue 27th Oct 2020 - Songs From My Front Room # 4 - I Miss You - John Jenkins and Pippa Mudie

Songs From My Front Room" # 4 “I Miss You”

Hi friends, Week number 4 on this bloggy thing.

This song is an older song – I first recorded a version way back in 1989 with my band “The Persuaders” for Stings’ management company who had just signed us and wanted some new songs. They funded some recording sessions but not enough funding to mix the songs properly so it’s remained buried away in my music vaults. I dug it out for me to sing on my “Her Soldier Boy” EP a few years back and it’s one I play about once a year although I have a fondness for it. This version as you can see is not just me but my good friend “Pippa Murdie” who is part of the “Paris Wives” set up I had at the beginning of the year. Pippa and I have been working up a few songs so we can do the odd gig here and there when Covid-19 is hopefully over. We aim to do some live streams So for Episode 4 of “Songs from My Front Room”.

About the song This is called “I Miss You” It’s an imaginary story – I had this cinematic picture of a relationship gone wrong in somewhere like California with big open roads and beaches and a bloke driving up and down it pondering how much he missed his partner and reflecting how he had gone wrong.

As I said last week I’ve been pretty chuffed for my friend and singer “Sister Lee” with all the lovely comments she has had about “Who Took The Stars out of the Sky?” a song I wrote and recorded with her. Billy Butler even messaged me personally to say how much he enjoyed it – I was really touched.

I have a few more songs I’m working on in the studio at the moment so more to be revealed. I put this message out on Facebook this week … So pleased to be able to let people know that with the help of the arts council England and Lottery i can start planning to record my next album and put some musicians together to play some tour dates in 2021 (if possible). There's a lot of people that will be involved who will get paid such as recording studios/CD Pressing/Booking Agents/PR Companies/ Session musicians so i'm really happy to be able to pass on my good fortune to them too and they be part of this next stage in my musical journey.

Everything i have done so far has been self financed and paid either by several loans or my retirement lump sum that i had so for the first time i can hopefully relax about money for music without adding more debt to the ones i have lol x Before this project still got 2 EP's to finish out my own money. Hopefully 2021 will be a good year and the album will be something special xxx

ps thanks to Arts Council and Stevie Smith from AMAUK who kept us members in the loop about opportunities such as this x

This week’s listening has been very interesting – Eric Anderson ( a true lost album from 1971) and Vashti Bunyan Some Gabriel Faure classical stuff and Irma DeMent’s debut – The wonderful “Infamous Angel”. .

Ok thanks for reading this and listening to my song – hopefully you’ll tune in to the next episode?
