1 ‘Weary’
‘Weary’ is a song I had been tinkering with in the studio for nearly 2 years. I knew what I wanted but getting there was a very long road travelled. Occasional songs of mine such as ‘Desert Hearts’ and ‘Too Much Drinking on a Sunday’ I forget I’m only hiring the studio for a few hours at a time and run up rather large studio bills trying to perfect the recordings with Jon Lawton, bringing in musicians, recording everything and the kitchen sink, discarding days of takes and so on. I think on this song we got there in the end.
Helen Shanley came in because I needed that gospely individual BIG voice to have the climax I wanted on the song.
