Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge Final

The Leaf, Bold Street, Liverpool

Saturday 12th January 2019 i have had the good fortune to have a song i wrote especially for the Songwriting Challenge (What we did We Did For Love) selected by judges as one of the top 10.

I'll be performing this song at The Leaf in Bold Street with the other 9 finalists performing their individual songs.

I've heard some of the other songs and it promises to be a great night of music believe me. Operation Lightfoot will also be providing a short set during the show.

JOHN JENKINS AND THE JAMES STREET BAND LIVERPOOL: Write Blend FRI 9TH NOV, 2018 7:00pm Previously with bands The Persuaders & Come in Tokio, Jenkins has supported the likes of Elvis Costello, The Beat, Echo and The Bunnymen appearing on a half dozen BBC Radio 1 Sessions back in the day including three sessions for the legendary John Peel.

For 20 years John came out of the music industry but still had the urge to play and in late 2014 returned to the front line when he won an award at the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriter's Challenge. Since then, he's not looked back.

He was selected to take part in the 2018 Americana Music Association UK Songwriting Workshop in front of prestigious Songwriting panel consisting of Chris Difford, Mary Gauthier, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Sam Baker Feedback received was “That was Brilliant” “It’s a beautiful song”

He has released several singles and a debut solo album “Trains” to favourable reviews in late 2016. His new solo album “Window Shopping in Nashville” (a 21 track Double CD) was released in September 2017.

In 2016 he wrote the charity Song “Someday We’ll See Better Days” which features 19 of Liverpool finest singers including Ian Prowse, Robert Vincent, Jo Bywater, Paul Dunbar, and Maria Silker. This was recently performed at the New Brighton Floral Hall” by a choir and musicians as part of the “All You Need is Love” Peace Concert

He has made several TV & Radio appearances and his songs have be played on numerous radio stations around the UK.

John plays solo and with his band “John Jenkins and the James Street Band”.

He recently played at the Atkinson Theatre Southport in December 2017 to excellent reviews by National Americana Fatea Magazine. Other recent performances have been at the Smithdown Road Festival in May 2017and the prestigious 2016 Liverpool Folk Festival “Folk on the Dock.

Along with fellow James Street Band members Denis Parkinson and David Nixon, John will be treating us to two sets of brilliant songs, and there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Three bands play live in rotation, all on the same stage, and in an arrangement similar to that used in the BBC's Later with Jools Holland. This is the now regular event in this format, previous events have been very popular, very often selling out.

Bar opens at 7.00, music starts at 8.00pm prompt. Ends approx. 11.00pm.
