John Jenkins Releases “Too Many Roads” May 15th, 2026 Award-winning Liverpool-based singer-songwriter John Jenkins unveils ‘Too Many Roads’ his latest 2026 release. Too Many Roads (Single Release) Following the acclaimed release of his album Restless Hearts, Liverpool songwriter John Jenkins returns with a new single, “Too Many Roads” — a standout track that many listeners may have missed on release day but has continued to resonate with those who discovered it later. In a world where audiences often hear songs in isolation rather than as full albums, Jenkins is now bringing some of his most powerful album moments forward for radio consideration, giving them the spotlight they deserve. Restless Hearts earned glowing praise on its release, with reviewers calling it “a masterclass in modern storytelling”, “cinematic, compassionate and beautifully observed”, and “songwriting that lingers long after the final note.” Several critics highlighted “Too Many Roads” as one of the album’s emotional anchors — a song that captures Jenkins’ gift for character driven narratives and quiet, human truth. “Too Many Roads” is a reflective, intimate piece about a man caught between choices, weighed down by regret, and searching for a way back to himself. It’s a song about crossroads — the kind we all face — and the quiet conversations that reveal more than they intend. Jenkins’ writing is tender, empathetic and unhurried, allowing the story to unfold with the emotional clarity that has become his signature. The track features a rich ensemble of collaborators who bring depth and texture to the recording: Pippa Murdie (vocals), John Lawton (bass), Scott Poley (pedal steel, guitars), and Mikey Kenny (violin). Their performances add warmth, colour and emotional weight, lifting the song into something timeless and deeply felt. With this single release, Jenkins continues to champion the art of the crafted song — stories that reward close listening, characters that feel lived in, and melodies that stay with you. “Too Many Roads” is a reminder of why Restless Hearts connected so strongly with critics and fans alike, and why Jenkins remains one of the most compelling storytellers on the UK folk Americana scene.

Release Date: Friday 22nd May 2026 Artist: River East River West Label: Bitter Harvest Recordings Overview Bitter Harvest Recordings is delighted to announce the new single from River East River West, the AI driven studio project created by Liverpool songwriter John Jenkins to explore the meeting point between classic country songwriting and modern technology. Their latest release, “Missed Calls Number 23”, is a bright, good humoured, foot tapping hillbilly romp — a world away from the reflective tone of their previous single, yet unmistakably stamped with Jenkins’ melodic instinct and storytelling charm. Originally written as a playful live number, the song now springs to life through the fictional band designed to deliver Jenkins’ more traditional country material with the swagger, bounce, and mischief he always imagined for them.

About the Song “Missed Calls Number 23” is an upbeat, tongue in cheek slice of modern country chaos. Driven by lively acoustic picking, a rollicking rhythm, and a wink and a grin vocal delivery, the track follows a hapless narrator who’s stayed out far too late, ignored a phone full of missed calls, and now faces the domestic consequences. The lyrics paint the scene with comic precision: – a night that “got away from him” – a young woman perched on his knee – clothes thrown across the garden – a guitar stuck up a tree – and a wife who’s heard every excuse before It’s a classic country tale of trouble in the morning, told with warmth, wit, and a self deprecating charm that keeps the mood light even as the poor lad digs himself deeper. The result is a fast moving, good natured hillbilly tune built for dancing, laughing, and singing along.

About the Project River East River West is an AI generated band conceived by John Jenkins as a creative vehicle for songs he has written but never felt suited to sing himself. Rather than letting these compositions gather dust, Jenkins uses emerging technology to bring them to life with the stylistic authenticity he always imagined — in this case, a lively, humorous, old school country sound. The music and lyrics remain entirely authored by Jenkins. The project simply allows these songs to find their ideal voice, energy, and audience.

Artist Statement – John Jenkins “I’ve written country songs for years — some serious, some playful, some downright daft — but I never quite had the voice or the resources to record them the way I heard them in my head. I once tried putting a session together with live musicians, but it didn’t quite click, and it cost more than I could realistically sustain. So I turned to AI, not as a shortcut, but as a tool. Songwriters have always embraced new technology — from Mellotrons to drum machines to digital recording. This is simply the next chapter. With River East River West, I imagine a band discovering one of my songs, interpreting it with their own energy, and sending it back to me. It’s still my melody, my words, my authorship — just filtered through a different lens. ‘Missed Calls Number 23’ is one of those songs that might never have seen daylight otherwise. If this approach helps it find listeners or even inspires another artist to cover it, then the experiment has been worthwhile.”

About John Jenkins John Jenkins is a Liverpool born Americana and folk leaning songwriter known for his storytelling craft, emotional clarity, and melodic touch. His work has been covered by numerous artists across the UK, and he continues to write, perform, and collaborate widely. With River East River West, Jenkins opens a new creative chapter — one that blends tradition with innovation while keeping the heart of the song front and centre. “Missed Calls Number 23” shows the playful side of his writing: humorous, lively, and irresistibly fun.

(Lyrics provided by the artist.) Missed Calls Number 23 There’ll be trouble in the morning just you wait and see There’ll be trouble in the morning because of me I said I’d be home soon But now it’s half past three Where did that time go? Wife’s gonna kill me

And it really wasn’t planned, time ran away from me I guess it didn’t help with that young girl on my knee Drinks were passed around, Missed calls number 23 There’ll be trouble in the morning you wait and see

Came home and I’ve been locked out She’s not happy Clothes all over the garden, guitar stuck up a tree No point saying sorry – she enjoys laying into me Likes it when I’m squirming, loves it when I’m on my knees

She don’t believe it wasn’t planned, it’s not the first time you see I guess my Facebook page don’t help with several women on my knee I should have realised after missed call 23 There’ll be trouble in the morning just for me

And it really wasn’t planned, time ran away from me I guess it didn’t help with the barmaid on my knee Liquor bottles passed around, Missed calls number 23 There’ll be trouble in the morning you wait and see There’ll be trouble in the morning you wait and see

I wrote and recorded this song for my album Growing Old – Songs from my Front Porch a few years ago. At the time, I felt that the political climate in the United States was deteriorating. The nation’s long‑held ideals—Hope, Freedom, and Liberty—seemed to be eroding day by day. Dying By Inches emerged from my deep unease and dismay at what I believed was unfolding. Now, in 2026, I wish I could say the situation has improved. However, anyone looking at events in the United States with an impartial eye can see that the opposite appears to be true. I’ve recently begun performing the song live again, and it resonates more strongly now than it ever did. I’ve never previously released an older track as a current single, but I feel compelled to do so with this one, given the times we’re living through and the message at its heart.

Dying by Inches

I’m dying but no-one really knows Spoke to the chaplain – told him “Here’s a bag, bury me in these clothes Well, I have no faith in this world Nothing is sacred – Nothing is fair”

Spoke to the DA and he felt the same “I fought all my life for goodness But everything it’s now changed Well, I remember a time way before When everything felt so different and life wasn’t so poor”

Well, I saw a light held up high in the sky Of a statue of a woman by the port And I think of the dreams that my father once had Laid wasted or just plain ignored

Well, I have no faith in this world Nothing is sacred nothing seems fair

Well, I saw that light held up high in the sky And it seemed just a little bit dimmer to me And I think of those people who sailed to this port With the belief they’d find hope and liberty We’re dying but we don’t really know

The Disappearance – December 7th, 2025 Award-winning Liverpool-based singer-songwriter John Jenkins unveils ‘The Disappearance’ the third single from his critically acclaimed album Restless Hearts. Set for release on all digital platforms December 7th, 2025, the track features standout performances from Mikey Kenney (fiddle) adding rich texture to Jenkins’s signature storytelling. Reflecting on the song, John shares: This song began as a quiet meditation on the fragility of relationships — a reflection on how, when bonds become strained, the sudden disappearance of a partner might leave the other unsure whether they’ve been abandoned or if something more tragic has occurred. It was a compelling idea to explore in song. In the wake of Nicola Bulley’s heartbreaking disappearance and the devastating news of her passing near the River Wyre, the song has taken on a deeper emotional resonance. Though it was written before that tragedy, performing it now carries an added poignancy I hadn’t anticipated. With beautifully understated fiddle contributions from Mickey Kenney. The talents of Chris Howard, Pippa Murdie and Jon Lawton also featured, this track has become one of my personal favourites from the Restless Hearts album. I’ve been especially moved to see it recently covered by two independent artists — a gesture that means a great deal.

Overview Bitter Harvest Recordings is proud to announce the new single from River East River West, an AI driven studio project created to explore the intersection of classic songwriting and modern technology. Their latest release, “Too Many Whiskeys Under the Bridge,” is an upbeat, foot tapping country track penned by acclaimed Liverpool songwriter John Jenkins. Originally performed only occasionally in Jenkins’ live sets, the song now finds a vibrant new life through a fictional band designed to deliver his more traditional country material with the swagger, swing, and drive he always imagined for them.

About the Song “Too Many Whiskeys Under the Bridge” is a lively, melodic slice of modern country storytelling. Driven by an infectious rhythm and classic Nashville leaning instrumentation, the song captures a relationship unravelling with wry humour, sharp detail, and a knowing nod to the genre’s great narrative traditions. Set in Belvedere, the lyrics paint a vivid picture: lipstick too red, thoughts drifting like mist, pride hanging in the air like a frayed rope. Despite the emotional tension, the track moves with an irresistible bounce — the kind of song that gets the foot tapping even as the story cuts deep.

About the Project River East River West is an AI generated band conceived by John Jenkins as a creative vehicle for songs he has written but never felt suited to sing himself. Rather than letting these compositions sit unheard, Jenkins has embraced emerging technology to bring them to life with the stylistic authenticity he always imagined for them — in this case, a bright, energetic country sound. Music and lyrics completely authored by John.

💡 A Bold Creative Twist In the lead-up to the release, John conceived a unique companion project: an alternative version of Restless Hearts, featuring each of the 12 original tracks reimagined by other artists. Initially hesitant—unsure if anyone would be interested in covering his songs—John was encouraged by respected songwriter Jim Pearson, who not only endorsed the idea but offered to record a cover himself. Word spread quickly across social media, and what began as a quiet experiment evolved into a grassroots celebration of collaboration. Artists from across genres stepped forward, each bringing their own interpretation—some professionally produced, others raw and intimate. Styles ranged from stripped-back acoustic to full-band arrangements, with several tracks receiving multiple covers in contrasting styles. 🎁 Available Now: Too Many Roads (Restless Hearts – Covered) As a heartfelt thank-you to the artists and fans, John is making the full Too Many Roads album available as a free digital download. For those who prefer a physical keepsake, a limited run of 30 CDs is available for £10, including postage. All proceeds will support the West Kirby Friday Night Musical Group, which recently relocated from the West Kirby Arts Centre to St Bridget’s Community Hall. Funds raised will help cover equipment upgrades and venue costs, ensuring the group continues to thrive in its new home.

John Jenkins Unveils Album 'Restless Hearts' Award-winning singer-songwriter John Jenkins returns his album Restless Hearts. Following the widespread critical acclaim of Tuebrook (2023) and the deeply moving six-track EP Weary (2024), Jenkins once again delivers a masterclass in storytelling and musical craftsmanship. Set for release on all digital platforms on July 4th, 2025. It is an album that promises to be one of Jenkins’s most profound and emotionally stirring works yet. Featuring 12 original compositions that explore themes of love, loss, faith, and the fleeting nature of time. A carefully curated ensemble of A-list musicians enriches the album’s soundscape, including Mikey Kenney (fiddle), Scott Poley (dobro/pedal steel), Chris Howard (piano), Phil Chisnall (resonator guitar), Pippa Murdie (mandolin, cello, and backing vocals), and Jon Lawton (various guitars and bass). With poetic lyricism and evocative melodies, Jenkins’s latest work is a delicate yet powerful reflection on the human experience—celebrating the freedom found in connection, community, and the stories that bind us together.

John says:

I began recording this album at Crosstown Studios in September 2024 and completed it in May 2025. The journey has been deeply rewarding but not without its challenges—especially financially. I had high hopes of securing funding from the Arts Council and submitted several applications, coming close but never quite crossing the line. In one instance, I was told that four people were selected, and I was fifth—just shy of the support I needed. This album is dedicated to those who have believed in me, pre-ordered in advance, and generously helped along the way—whether through special deals, patience with payments, or even moments of financial sacrifice. I won’t mention names, as I wouldn’t want to embarrass anyone, but you know who you are. Please know that your support means the world to me, and I am profoundly grateful. Songs My previous album, Tuebrook, was deeply personal, with most tracks drawing inspiration from significant moments in my own life. For this new album, I aimed to return to storytelling, crafting narratives that were less autobiographical yet still rich in character and emotion. Even while consciously creating fictional personas, I found that elements from my own experiences and the lives of those around me naturally wove their way into the fabric of the songs. The result is a blend of truth and fiction, where distinguishing one from the other is often challenging. I sought to build an imagined world—one that listeners could connect with, populated by characters whose struggles and aspirations resonate universally. The themes revolve around individuals who are restless, searching for something greater, striving for dreams that have been stifled. Interestingly, I was surprised by how frequently references to religion emerged organically within the narratives. Musically, I drew inspiration from two albums that have long influenced me: Bob Dylan’s John Wesley Harding, with its stripped-down production and lyrical brilliance, and Nanci Griffith’s Last of the True Believers, which masterfully balances intricate instrumental arrangements without overwhelming the composition. For this project, I intentionally leaned towards a roots-oriented sound—favouring acoustic instrumentation over electric guitars—to create a warm and organic feel. I hope you enjoy the journey these songs take you on.

WHEN ORDERING THE PHYSICAL CD PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO ADD YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS

I am very pleased to announce the release date for ‘Tuebrook’, the follow-up to the Fretsore Records album ‘If You Can’t Forgive You Can’t Love’ from acclaimed Liverpool artist John Jenkins. Joining John on the recording is regular multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Lawton and touring and live show partner Pippa Murdie (mandolin/guitar and vocals). Recorded at Crosstown Studios in Liverpool.

John’s songs unfold cinematically and capture moments of human vulnerability, and his warm, inviting vocals tell delicate stories of the intimacy of our daily lives. More stripped back than previous releases, the power of ‘Tuebrook’ comes from John’s blend of fiction and memoir—some songs are personal and intimate with details drawn from John’s own life, others are the stuff of novels and cinema.

Praise for the “Tuebrook” Album

Americana UK “This masterful collection highlights why Jenkins is fast becoming one of Liverpool’s most respected singer-songwriters”.

Rocking Magpie “Nothing could prepare me what was about to unfold …This Album let me speechless”.

Spill Magazine Toronto Canada “One incredible Album ... Tuebrook stands out in the same way Nebraska stood out for Bruce Springsteen”.

Liverpool Acoustic “This is a fantastic album and solidifies Jenkins as a truly formidable songwriting talent”.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * * * ‘Tuebrook” is a piece of art that moves the listener, cajoles it, defends the right of the listener to feel the crush of overwhelming humanity, and then lifts with hope…this is an album for the age, and to hear it is to love it.”

Stereo Stickman 30th June 2023 A uniquely evocative collection of songs. ‘Tuebrook’ makes for a timeless and consistently heartfelt listen, and effectively extends further still the ever-genuine repertoire of John Jenkins.

Fatea Magazine July 2023 “At times warmly nostalgic but without rose-tinted glasses, at others movingly sad, it’s an album for those of a certain age who have come to look back on their own younger days and those with whom they shared them, and as such, it’s a little gem”

At The Barrier Magazine Aug 2023 “Some of the warmest and most intimate, wistful, confessional reveries that you’re likely to hear this side of Christmas”.

Welcomed early this year was the first single ‘Shadows,’ an intimate reflective song on towns and communities that have fallen by the wayside over the course of years.

“And all the places I cared about the most are no longer there.”

It was followed by the second single ‘Christopher Roberts’.

“‘Christopher Roberts’ is a gently compelling song that engages right from the beginning, thanks to the inclusion of actual and spoken recording from Jenkins’ childhood. Then, his delicate strum and understated vocal feel absorbingly intimate.” Americana UK

‘Tuebrook’ takes inspiration from the Americana and Liverpudlian songbooks. With influences from John Prine to The Beatles, and Mary Chapin Carpenter to Townes Van Zandt, the album highlights once again why John has received so much admiration for his songs.

John says “Tuebrook is an area in Liverpool that I spent a lot of time in when I was young. My Church, both infant and junior school (St. Cecilia’s), my dentist, doctor, the nearest shops, pubs, and friends were all in Tuebrook.

“I should point out from the offset that this album is not ‘Tuebrook the Musical,’ only about half the songs were written with Tuebrook in mind. I generally write story songs about fictitious people and places like a novelist would. As a songwriter, it was quite interesting for me to reach deep within myself and write about people I know or knew.”

‘43 and Counting’ is written from the perspective of a woman who wanted children but whose partner did not and has now left her for a younger woman. She is now at an age when meeting someone new and having children is going to be very hard.

‘Idaho’, with themes of tragedy and the struggle to overcome, uses a traditional melody to John’s storytelling lyric.

‘William’ is a song about a childhood friend who fell to drink and was unable at times to control his addiction even with everyone’s support and prayers. Emotional and heartbreaking, John reaches deeply into his soul to relate this sad tale.

“I had a lot of new songs I had been working on in Crosstown Studios and I had been asked so many times to release a stripped-back album without the usual pyrotechnics of some of the earlier album songs” states Jenkins. “Even though quite a few songs on the surface are autobiographical I am sure a lot of people can relate to some of the stories and emotions the songs speak about.”

‘Tuebrook’ is the lyrical soundtrack to people growing old and thinking about their past, family, friends, and places they once lived in.

‘Tuebrook’ is co-produced by John Jenkins and Jon Lawton (Sami Yusuf, Ian Prowse, Only Child) and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, U2, Patti Smith). The album is available from the usual digital retailers or as a physical CD.

John will be touring the UK with Pippa Murdie in support of the ’Tuebrook’ Album.

Acclaim for ‘If You Can’t Forgive You Can’t Love’

“Super, Stunning Even” - Stereo Stickman “A splendid collection, 13 really powerful tracks” - Ralph McLean – BBC Radio Ulster "One of the strongest and best albums of this year" – Spill Magazine “A varied collection of strong songs that repays repeated plays” – Americana UK “Inspirational and highly recommended” – FATEA “His refreshing lyrical accuracy continues across the record, musical and thoughtful…” – R’n’R Magazine
